Whatcha Gonna Do? Joh 6:5 Then Jesus lifted up His eyes and saw a great crowd come to Him. He said to Philip, Where shall we buy loaves so that these may eat? Isa 55:8 For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor your ways My ways, says Jehovah. Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. Ok, Ok, real quick- You're in need of a friend and there is absolutely no one around. Watcha gonna do? You just ran out of your guest's beverage of choice. Whatcha gonna do? You just found out your good friend has died and is already 6 feet under. Whatcha gonna do? It is totally dark wherever you look and you would like to throw a little light on the subject. Whatcha gonna do? A whole bunch of friends have followed you way out in the country where there are no restaurants or grocery stores. They're all starving. Whatcha gonna do? Of course, this could go on and on with no end to the examples of what we might do as opposed to what God would do. While we might come up with a creative way to use the means and resources at hand to resolve an issue, it seems like God goes way beyond this. He takes creativity to its ultimate level and actually forms or creates something from where all the rest of us thought there was nothing. He's never had to rely on E-harmony.com for relationships, Home Depot for materials, UPS to deliver enough goods or materials, or medical means to restore or resurrect. When He thinks of what He's gonna do, His thoughts immediately flow on a higher level, one that brings much more effective results. We will make it through this life, and by the help of God we'll be able to be like McGyver, taking whatever comes our way and using available resources to be successful. There is a way of thinking, however, that is of a heavenly and Godly nature that abiding in Jesus' presence will influence. Even though we will always be human, there is something of a Godly, creative nature that has begun in us when our spirits are reborn into Christ. As this new spirit is allowed to grow up, actually taking the form of Christ, there is a new way of thinking and talking that can be acquired. Peter, at the gate Beautiful, was able to think at this higher level by tapping into the creative substance within and giving the crippled man more than a walking stick or even a nice electric scooter. It was the security he had found in His relationship with Jesus that allowed His mind to flow in a truly creative direction before any other consideration. He didn't have to try and remember or conjure up some method or formula that would hopefully work as he'd seen it work somewhere else. As the end would be creative, so would the procedure of that creativity be. Jesus didn't develop a step-by-step procedure that could be emulated by standing on the right foot, saying the right words, or holding your tongue just right. As His results were creative, so were the applications that administered the transformations. Peter had learned from Jesus that the real creative power of God is something that flows from the Holy Spirit within, requiring only an obedient vessel, never a rehearsed incantation. We were introduced to something completely divergent from anything our earthly experience could have prepared us for whenever we took the ride to the kingdom of Light. To have even received Christ actually required a thought on a level that we could never have discovered on our own. To continue growing in this new Kingdom, though, requires the growth of thought on that level, where the seeming lack of possibility only gives way to the creation of something quite magnificent from apparently nothing at all. The growth doesn't take place in reverse order, where we try to make sense out of every Spirit generated event, discounting anything that doesn't fit into our preconceived formula. His ways are higher, and His thoughts are higher. They can never fit into anything we can box up. To abide in Christ, though, and to let His words abide in our hearts is to nurture the higher thoughts and ways of heaven. It is possible for His creative thoughts to precede our old natural problem solving thought patterns. As we've been born into Christ, we can also begin to walk in Him. And, living and moving in Him will include a change of thought- in fact, a radical change of thought. When it is asked of us what we might do about a situation, (sort of like what Jesus asked in John 6:5) our initial thought can be one of creative possibilities and heavenly solutions. In this our true faith can be made active and evident. To truly know Him will include the acceptance of creative considerations- "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Heb. 11:1. We can actually leave the confines of worldly limited thinking for the unlimited and endless possibilities of heaven's thoughts. 8/29/06
